Did you know that turmeric offers numerous health benefits? As I've mentioned to some of you at boot camp, I have been drinking this Spiced Turmeric Golden Milk at night. One of the main compounds found in turmeric is curcumin, which gives is what gives it the yellow color as well as immense health benefits. Plus, cardamom is helpful with bone loss, turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory, and cinnamon lowers your LDL cholesterol and regulates your blood sugar. And it is warm and tastes yummy!
Ingredients:
Milk – 1 glass
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon (or liquid Turmero-XL Active works too)
Black pepper (ground) – ¼ teaspoon
Cinnamon – 2 small sticks
Cardamom (ground) – ¼ teaspoon
Honey – as per taste
Extra-virgin coconut oil (optional) – ½ to 1 teaspoon
Directions:
Pour a glass of milk into a saucepan and turn it on low heat. You can use any type of milk!
Add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder to the milk. If you want a stronger flavor, add more turmeric powder.
Add the remaining spices to the milk:
¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder
2 cinnamon sticks
¼ teaspoon of cardamom powder
After the spices, add ½ to 1 teaspoon of extra-virgin coconut oil to the milk. Once the milk starts boiling, put the lid on the saucepan. Lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes. If you do not like the taste of coconut oil, skip this step.
Stir the mixture with a spoon and bring it to a rolling boil. Stirring at this point will prevent lumps from forming.
Finally, remove from heat and strain the turmeric milk into a glass using a fine sieve. Be careful, as the milk will be very hot.
Sweeten the milk with 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey, depending upon your preference. Stir well.
To enhance the flavor, sprinkle some cinnamon powder on top of your milk before drinking it.
Drink milk while warm to enjoy its health benefits. Enjoy!
